For parents and children alike, the transfer of the educational experience from the family home to a moreformal environment can be a daunting time. Of course, it remains a cooperative process but we believe ourphilosophy and resources help make the transition as easy and enjoyable as possible. The term ‘pre-school’ can be something of a misnomer: our youngest pupils are as much a part of theschool as the eldest. However, they benefit from a beautiful, spacious and well-resourced classroom oftheir own.
With a wide range of resources and – most importantly – the care and support of committed, trained staff, our pre-school programme provides young learners with a safe and vibrant environment in which to learn, develop and adjust to school life. Our pre-school programme helps to prepare pupils for the challenges they will face later on; we focus onliteracy, maths, practical life, personal, social, physical and emotional development as well as expressivearts and design.

The International Early Years Curriculum is an innovative approach, recognising global best-practice andthe developmental needs of 3-5 years old. All learning and development goals focus around five LearningStrands:
  • Independence and Interdependence
  • Communicating
  • Enquiring
  • Healthy Living
  • Physical Well-Being

Our Preschool teachers stimulate children through spontaneous and reciprocal interactions. They’re taller, more coordinated and more attentive: they’re 4 year old and their individual personalities are starting to shine. Four-year-olds start to develop a sense of humor that they’ll enjoy sharing by telling silly jokes. This is the time when imaginary friends may be introduced, as well as repetitive imaginary games. They also begin to tell ‘little’ lies in order to keep from getting in trouble. Be prepared for plenty of little tests, as they’ll start to say and do things simply to gauge your reaction. It’s also not unusual for this age group to start asserting themselves, becoming a little bossy. Tattling becomes a favorite pastime, too. Of course, it’s always important to remember that children develop at different rates.

At Maximilian Preschool, we offer integrated approaches to our curriculum with real life contexts, meaningful experiences and opportunities for learning. Discovery learning is provided in both small groups and by independent learning experiences. We are believers that all a school can do and needs to do for their students is to develop their ability to think. We work on the 4 C’s skills with all students: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication, to achieve independent thinking.

Children learn through play and more importantly, through play, they learn how to learn. Every experienceour youngest students go through opens a new door; they start with exploring and finish with expressingtheir new understandings. This cycle of impress, explore and express is repeated every day with everynew piece of the topic-puzzle.
