PYP TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEMES

OVERVIEW OF THE TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEMES

International School Maximilian, as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School* is committed to the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP is an IB programme designed for students aged 3–12 years.

The PYP is an international curriculum framework, based on best practice and research from around the world. We challenge students to excel in their learning and in their personal growth, and we aim to inspire in them a quest for learning throughout life.

In the PYP a balance is sought between acquiring knowledge and skills, understanding concepts, demonstrating positive attitudes and taking responsible action.

Knowledge in the PYP is organized into six Transdisciplinary Themes:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organise ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

These Transdisciplinary Themes have been carefully chosen for their significance to all learners in all cultures. They offer many opportunities for development of skills, knowledge and understanding within and across six subject areas: Arts, Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Personal, Social and Physical education.
